You know, TC, since the CNN article comes from Rolling Stone, I'll bet it duplicates one of the links you posted earlier?  I'm sorry if it does.  In any case, the unique thing about the article is how it starts out how the upcoming ceremony looks more and more like the Titanic as more and more inductees bow out, tying the ceremony in with the 100th anniversary of that maritime disaster.  Then it goes on to say what I said above, that it turned out to be one of the best ceremonies ever.

Last time I recall John Mellecamp presented an inductee, he choked.  His speech inducting the Lovin' Spoonful, as it was odd and strangely enthusiastic yet unconvincing, was far better than the Lovin' Spoonful's performance that night.  That easily was the worst performance among all the Induction Ceremony performances I've seen.  This time, though, in inducting Donovan, Mellencamp has improved immensely.  Here's the transcript of his entire speech.  Now, if someone would put up the transcript of Chris Rock's speech present the RHCP. . . .

Here's the Detroit News account of the induction ceremony, centering of course on the Miracles' induction.  Maybe my eyes skipped over it, but I couldn't find any mention of any of Marv Tarplin's heirs making it to the ceremony.

Now, here is finally a transcript of Chris Rock's induction speech for the RHCP.  It's a great speech.  One quibble on the transcript though - I do believe he said "Brian Wilson" rather than "Ryan Wilson".  I'm fairly sure that Chris Rock was not talking about the professional wrestler. . . .
